JoAnn Falletta et al....

Dear Classical Folks,

Here is a copy of a letter and a poem I sent to Maestra JoAnn Falletta today. I had a lot of fun with it. The blurb to which I refer is on the wned.org website under WNED-FM. Best regards to you all.

Sincerely,

Izzy.

Dear Maestra Falletta,

As you know, theres a strong connection between poetry and music. In his TV series, Young Peoples Concerts, Maestro Leonard Bernstein disclosed that Classical Blues are mainly triplets of iambic pentameter. Ive been told that Shakespeare is easily translated into opera because the entire plays' scripts are iambic pentameter. Now, I see that it works both ways. Whoever wrote the WNED-FM announcement about the July Lewiston concert featuring yourself, Pablo Garibay and the BPO, must be a musician, a poet, or both. Just as it reads, it is practically entirely in iambs. It converts itself easily into sonnets with classic 14 line Iambic Pentametre. William Shakespeare and Elizabeth Barrett Browning would be proud to have written this copy.

In the spirit of the Muses of Poetry and Music, with apologies to William Shakespeare and Elizabeth Barrett Browning and with full poetic license, I submit to you the three sonnets that are evoked by the WNED blurb. I hope you enjoy them.

Wishing you much continued happiness in your wonderful endeavours, I am sincerely yours,

Izzy.
