Dear Sarah,

I went to the Americn Psychiatric Association's website thru a link with the DSM of MD by the APA, and wrote the following comment which I also blogged at www.blogger.ca. Maybe it'll stimulate some thinking instead of alwaus going by the book... Later. Izzy.

Message to the APA

I believe the DSM has set back the real diagnosis and treatment of Depression and Anxiety for a 100 years. Freud and Selye were right on the money. The damaged ego is the basis for all psychiatric disorders including the addictive ones. A case can be made for cognitive therapy and corrections of dissociations and distortions that will work for all disorders. The chemical theory and the use of huge amounts of drugs were off the mark. The ancients knew the truth. You can tell this from biblical and other sources including the school of Hippocrates. And some psychiatrists have known the truth for years as exemplified by simple teachings done by a British psychiatrist and John Cleese. Freud was a man of his time, as was Mesmer and Hippocrates and de Sade and Jesus of Nazareth. But they were all unanimous in their logic. Adler and Jung also knew the truth.
This message was sent to the American Psychiatric Association who publishes the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, on the desk of every psychologist and psychiatrist, almost like a bible. It fragments the human psychological condition into symptoms and signs and syndromes without paying attention to the patient as a whole. I sent the message from the APA website as a note to the psychiatrists as was set up by the site. It implies that the heavy enforced use of drugs is off the mark. A loving partner or mentor is what the patient needs and is absolutely what the psychiatrist does NOT provide. Cognitive and behavioural modification therapist and even EMDR therapist are much safer and effective in ending up with a "logical" patient, if that's possible. If it's not possible and drugs are used, the suicide rate is always higher with all the drugs, as all the recent studies show. It's about time that outcomes are as strong a consideration over short term benefits, with regard to the choice of therapies in any patient with any set of signs and symptoms and any tagged diagnosis. The DSM is more about satisfying insurance companies and physicians budgets than it is about patient's real problems.

Thanks for listening to a 70 year old patient who is a retired physician who did psychotherapy.

RE: Make it simple, please, Revenue Canada
Dear sir,
Every year at this time, I am reminded that filling out and filing the income tax forms is a pain in the neck. I am also reminded that I once lived in a country where filing was a single sheet of paper that asked my income and then calculated 15% tax owed so long as I wasnt a student or I wasnt making under 20K a year. It wasn't like Johnny Carson's annual joke: Fill in income in this square; send that amount to Internal Revenue Service. William F. Buckley, the erstwhile host of PBSs Firing Line, and long time syndicated columnist in the USA, did all the calculations: If everyone contributed 15%, no matter what their income was, so long as it was above 20K, then everyone would pay his fair share. Moreover, the entire department in the government responsible for collection and records would be totally unnecessary and could be gotten rid of with a government saving far beyond billions of dollars. In the long run, Revenue Canada would be richer by billions since even millionaires would now be paying taxes and not paying lawyers to not pay taxes. Its a simple idea that many countries have adopted with great success with enough extra money to provide free college education and free health care to everyone and lots left over for welfare and improvement of roads and bridges.
Its a simple idea whos time has come for Canada! Yay!
Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,

Hello my Dear,
I am Mrs.Nenita Villaran, A citizen of philippine, widow, and legitimate heir to the late former Minister of finance who was assassinated for been working with the ex-president Joseph Estrada in philippine
.
I inherited a total sum of 14 million dollars from my late husband, The presure from my decease husband's family for this money has compelled me to leave Manila and have the money which is concealed in a metallic trunk box deposited with a security and finance company Cote d' ivoire under a secret arrangement as a family treasure.
This means that the security company does not know the content of this box that was shipped from the Philippine to Cote d'ivoire under a diplomatic coverage.
My purpose of asking for your assistance boil down to the fact that I don't want my late husband's family to be aware or name involve, and the deposit statement of the box authorized the company to make this box avaliable for shipment on request only to my foreign bussiness representative, though unname.
Hence I want you to contact the the security company as my bussiness partner / associate, after receiving the prove from me to enable the company release the consigment to you diplomatically, while I join you on the arrival of the box.
All you need do is to help me contact the security company and introduce yourself as my bussiness partner / associate, requesting the shipment of the box to your address which you will provide.
And as soon as Diplomatic shipping agent approved the shipment and tell you the arrival date of the box then I will join you to give you 20% of the money instantly before I go on with the proposed investment in your domain provided is secured and investment friendly.
Please if you are interested and willing to represent me as my bussiness partner / associate kindly write me as soon as possible.
I awaits your urgent response.
Best wishes
Mrs.Nenita Villaran

Thanks for the email. It's OK about the 14th... I'm 70 and I'm getting accustomed to going to places by myself and having a good with someone elses date... Today, for the first time ever, I hit a mini jackpot on a slot maching and was handed $1000 in cash! It actually only took $2 to hit it. It felt wonderful. I walked away with the grand plus the 20 I came in with.

Thanks for the link... I'll check it out later.

I had a flood in my apartment... my fish tank leaked all night. I finally washed all my towels today. Miraculously, all the fish survived!

I hope to see you at the Casino. What was your trip like? Are you going to be moving away soon?

All the best. Keep smiling that great smile of yours which looks like you're up to something.

Later. Izzy

Hi Izzy,

Thanks so much for the offer but unfortunately, I have to work both day and night on the 14th. Perhaps I'll see you around that day or even sooner.

How have you been lately? Win big at the casino at all?

dearest Shari...

Dear Shari,

When I got no response from anyone, except from Jim Berryman, I assumed the poems went over like a Led Zeppelin. Bad assumption, I guess. I'm afraid I'm just sensitive. When my sister read some of my poetry, some time ago, she said, "You'd better keep your day job." My second wife disliked them so much, she erased some 10,000 of them, mainly limericks, from my Macintosh when we were married. My sister did like my 10 min., 10 sec., interview that Jim produced and aired, about 10 days ago on a Saturday night during the fund drive. I get kudo's from www.Poetry.com where I have over 200 poems posted and where they have featured my poems in their coffee table anthologies of the International Society of Poets, their discs and their cards.. Perhaps it's the old thing about prophets never being recognized by their own townspeople and expecially by their own kith and kin...Next time I'll think more positively. Thanks for your response. And, I'll be seeing you on the radio...

Sincerely,

Izzy.

Happy 39th Birthday. Mazel Tov on everything including the marriage of all your daughters and the births of all your new grandchildren. I'm sorry I haven't been around for a lot of it. I've not been well. However, I'm better now and I hope to be better and to have a better attitude in the years to come. Perhaps we can get to knwo each other better before I get to be 71 or 72... I am now more than ever aware of what I do to prevent contact and intimacy with kith and kin and I'm sorry I've put a wall around me at times, even when I haven't been depressed. I'm still getting the hang of letting my hair down and admitting I have a lovely family and I had good parenting despite what I was so bitter about in the past. My born again christian friend has done a lot to teach me forgiveness and love and it's been an eye opener. In effect, I grew up suspicious and resistent and made those around me miserable by refusing to accept love and giving love. I used to think I was so independent that I didn't need it or want it. Well... I've finally awoken to the idea that a family is very precious and that I need it's love and I need to partipate in it's loving events. So, it took 70 years to learn... better late than never. I'm sad I never had a chance to make my peace with Ma and Daddy, but if their listening, I'm ready now....

I've been enjoying going to the synagogue, B'nai Tikva, also B'nai Jakob, in Niagara Falls. There's rarely a minion. When there's only 3 or 4, we have a discussion of the Torah section appropriate to that particular week. I love the old stories of the patriarchs, the begatting and the rules and regulations. The stories of the characters, like Jacob and Joseph, Lot and Rebecca, are better than any soap opera. There's also a lot of psychological meat for discussion and a lot of sociology that applies even today, perhaps espectially today. If the stories are merely allegorical, they are still significant inasmuch as it reflects the thoughts and feelings of the ancients and their similarity to ours, today.

In the meantime, may this Cinco da Mayo be your best ever and may you have a great year with your loved ones. All the best to you and Meir and everyone. May you get to see the lilly-livered albotross and the sabre-toothed sea gull this year...

Love,

Izzy.
